or not to wax, - that is my quandary (sorry Mr S!)

I'm finishing a dressing table for a VIP client (SWMBO) and after a couple of coats of danish oil it's all looking very good. Normally I'd continue with several more wiped on coats and stop at about 6.

However, this time round I'm thinking of using some wax and wondered if it will give me the 'wear' I want. My somewhat old fashioned thinking tends to regard wax finishes as a sticky finish that will end up attracting dirt etc. and need refinishing later on.

I know many use it a lot and I'm prepared to give it a go as I would like to cut down on the number of coats of oil as it is long involved job.

Thoughts and advice appreciated.

If you apply a good wax like Black Bison and follow the instructions, then you will have a surface that feels as smooth as glass and looks fantastic

Wax? on a dressing table? Where make-up and other girlie gunk lives? I think I'd varnish or lacquer it.

She'll love being referred to as a 'girlie'!!

My latest blast of inspiration is to cover the top with some toughened polished edge glass so she can spill, thump or whatever without me wincing all time.

On that basis I'll have a go at waxing and see where it ends up.

...or even better Tom, a nice bit of 2mm thick steel plate! - Rob
