With that kind of budget, a good combination machine would be a good choice (if you have the space). I would recommend the axminster machine:

I'll second that! I received mine on Wednesday and it really looks like a beautiful piece of kit. It runs nicely too, in the sense that the motor doesn't roar away at you like some planers I've seen.

Byron, can I ask how you went about moving it though? They suggest in the manual that you insert the two hooks and use a host - which I don't have! I think it can be lifted between two people, but I know you MUST NOT lift it by the tables and so, I don't see how it can easily be moved.

Have you added a wheel stand to yours? I'm thinking of getting one from Axminster for it, but again, it means having to lift the machine.

Any ideas would be welcome please?

Hi Olly - I moved it using just myself and SWMBO, we just grasped the machine and 'walked' (by rocking from corner to corner) into position. I've fitted the pair of wheels that came with it. You should also have two iron bars that fit into a pair of sleeves at one end of the machine, you can then lift the machine up a few inches onto the wheels and wheel it about. However, since adding a wheeled base to the bandsaw I recently purchased, I will definitely be getting one for the P/T - it makes it very easy to move about.

Good luck with!

Hmmm, that doesn't sound right to me I'm afraid. How long ago did you buy your machine - I think I saw '2005' somewhere on the casing of mine?

I have four round feet which need to be screwed to the base but there were no wheels or iron bars with my delivery. I don't think there's any mention on them online or in the catalogue either.

Due to some confusion (on Axminster's behalf!!) the driver turned turned up when no-one was there and I found a great big box left on the drive. It was in front of the garage mind! I removed the chipboard box and unscrewed the machine from the base, then my neighbour came round with this trolley-thing and we got it in to the garage - just about!

Olly - my machine is the lyndhurst version I can only assume that these are slightly different. I'll see if I can get some pics up to show what I mean.

it has been suggested to me that the easiest way to move the machine is in fact to wack a long lump of 4x2 in the thicknesser part, wind up the table, and then use the lump to move it.

certainly works for my 6x4 machine 8)

I used a block and tackle to lift mine on to a wheelbase using some home made rope slings, this was ok for me as I could sling the block to the roofing joist, an ideal way if you want to protect your ageing body :D
