Timber merchant North West

I am thinking of making my own workbench and was wondering where would be best in the North West to source hardwood timbers? The local merchants that know of only have softwoods.

Don't forget that there is more to this site than just the forum. For example, the red tabs at the top include one that says 'local' which has a directory of timber merchants on it!

I know suppliers in my neck of the woods are few and far between, so I tried Cornwall - it gave me somewhere "only a mile and a half from J27 on the M62!"

I believe Howarth Timber Barnsley deal in hardwoods; if you rang them they may be able to arrange to have an order delivered to one of their branches more local to you.
