Thing is that if you look at the total carbon footprint of double glazing...even without factoring in the uPVC element.....it works out at around 100 years or so. It really is so much b**lsh*t particularly when you look at the heat loss through the walls in older houses.

And I leave with this thought....if the Govt/EEC/table-thumpers were that committed to saving energy then :

1) why don't they insist on double glazing for shop fronts?

2) why don't they insist that shops switch off their lights at closing time?

3) why are so many Govt buildings floodlit throughout the night?

Us and them rules again Rog. We, the little man, are easeir to pick on.

One thought is that if the existing glazing bars were large/deep enough, that you could rout out a rebate on the inside surface of each pane , square up the corners, apply the stick on circular seal ...as linked to on the reddiseals site ...then add the second pane and glazing beads to secure.
My existing Windows at the front are all metal (Critall?) so not an option for me.

Interesting that, dunno if I could fit any though, I'll have to check. Ta!
Trouble is all this work interferes with the more inmportant tasks, like rebuilding my motor bike!
