I recently got this lovely tilly table lamp, in need of some TLC.
I know theses are good for light and heat.
Do not rush in and buy, with out checking a lot of stuff.
This one I knew needed new seals, new glass and new mantles. I was willing to take a punt on the vaporizer. As I have serviceable units already.
New glass, These can be costly, but I have found a good place to buy from in the UK.
If the three sprigs that hold the glass in place are missing either walk away or be prepared to spend money on new.
Good mantles are easy to fit. Cheap E bay ones do not last, do not fit and are often rated wrong.
The pump washer was missing.
No. It was still in the pump body.
It had dried out.
Take the pump out and clean it well. Replace the seals in the None return valve as well.
Soak the cup washer in Veg oil and carefully refit.
Place your thumb over the end and pump, you will feel the pressure. You can not test the NRV at this point.
This is why you replace the seals, they go hard with age and heat., you should get all the seals in a good service kit.
3/4 fill the tank with lamp oil or good paraffin.
Give the pump 30 pumps. Any leaks at this stage will be easily seen.
If the pump handle rises up, the NRV is not working.
Do this bit out side.
Open the control valve and a good straight jet of fuel should come out. It not the vaporizer is broken. A new one is required.
Soak the pre-heater in Paraffin.
Take the lamp out side and light the pre-heater.
It will look alarming as the new mantle burns off.
If you open the control valve, to early, you may get flames like this or worse.
Close the control valve and wait.
When the pre-heater is almost out, open the valve.
The light should "pop" and burst into light.
If done right you will get a nice white flame and a gentle hissing noise.
This is the best place for all paraffin related items.
