Last November, whilst visiting Tools for Working Wood in Brooklyn to buy a couple of Gramercy saw kits, I was "persuaded" by Joel to buy one of his saw handle making rasps too.
I already have a few Auriuou rasps, which are fantastic, so I was a bit sceptical about the Gramercy one - but I was proven wrong.
The saw rasp is curved and has teeth only on one side and is the correct shape to rasp out the curves of a handle - I was greatly impressed with it and it made short work of one of the handles I made today.
A great purchase.

Here we go then - work still in progress - wood is English walnut

Top is "cut out" D/T saw handle, bottom is Carcase saw handle and blade

Final smoothing, sanding etc. still to be done.

That's interesting Rod, they're certainly a lot cheaper than the Auriou rasps are currently! I don't think their range includes a rasp quite like this either.

I really like the idea of the Gramercy dovetail saw kits and I look forward to seeing the finished saw.

Looking good Rod - I really enjoyed making my gramercy d/t saw. Does anyone know if you can get the carcase saw kit here in the UK or is it only available in the USA?

Ask Ray Iles at The Old Tool Store. He imports the dovetail saws and has a working relationship with Joel at toolsforwoodworking.

Here's the finished Gramercy Carcase saw - though still wet from the oil!

It feels really good with a nice balance.

That is a nice saw handle. Do you mind telling me where you got the sacrificial paper patten with the marks to rasp back to. It is an interesting concept and will help to take some of the guess work out of evening both side of the handle.

Actually, maximally comfortable handles are "handed"...

I have modified the handles to give them a more rounded profile (as per Wenzloffs). Much, much nicer and a much better fit!
