A very simple system with no screw thread to wear out.
Pull, push, twist to lock and unlock.

Oliver also set up a sales agency in the UK and later on a manufacturing business in Manchester, England which I believe broke away from the parent company in the 1930s. This showroom was on Deansgate in Manchester:

They were not a large concern (in the UK, the parent in the USA was massive and had reciprocal sales arrangements with Wadkin for some classes of machinery) and during the late 1930s and war years manufacture of some of their lower volume machines was farmed out to Burroughs Green (later Bursgreen) at Trawden, near Colne. The Oliver firm appears to have ceased making woodworking machinery in the early post war years although they still existed until relatively recently in Stockport as a more general engineering concern
