Not really, no.

I've been trying to think of a good analogy and the best I can come up with at the moment is comparing the 'old' mini with the 'new' BMW one. This is flawed however as many people would say there was absolutely nothing wrong with the old one and some people don't like the new one!

The 'old' show moved from the NEC some years ago and was held two or three times at Stoneleigh, every year getting less to see and do. Finally, the show was moved to Stafford (remember that one?) and that really was the death knell for it.

This new show is more of a re-invention and the only things the same are that it is woodwork-related and being held at Stoneleigh.
The new show is being organised by SK Promotions, the people behind the Harroagate Show, which is now widely regarded as the best show in the country.
SK Promotions will be bringing their expertise and experience in organising shows along with, most importantly, the support of the trade and standholders. A comment has already been made that it's good to see a certain company returning and this is due to the new organiser. It's worth mentioning that SK were asked to organise this show by a number of people in the trade.

We're supporting this show and hope that it'll set a new standard for shows in the Midlands which will only get better in coming years.

The show is also being supported and promoted by GMC Publishing which should open up even more avenues for the organisers.

Oh, and I think maybe some years ago the overflow parking might have been in a field, I'm not sure, but there is usually plenty of good parking to be had at Stoneleigh and polite and helpful 'attendants' too.

Hi Terry,
There's nowt wrong with parking in a field of course! It can be a little awkward when it's wet though, unless you have 4-wheel drive!
One show I went to there, the local farmer made a fortune, with his tractor, dragging cars out of the sludge!

I got stuck at the Yandles show one year in the van, there wasn't enough weight in it to get a grip; fortunately for me some people wandered by who I'd served about ten minutes beforehand and they leaned down on the bars on the front, got me some traction and I was away!
Woodworkers are all such a nice, helpful bunch!

And yes, I'm hoping to get to this show myself and am looking forward to it!

The Oneida Air Systems caught my eye.

So it's a three day show, I wonder if I'll see it all in one day? or should I plan in stopping over and make it two days?

Hi Terry,

Since the demise of the starting handle, it's not possible to 'wind' the vehicle out of the mud. Instead, engaging 2nd gear and then turning over the starter motor often works. It's hard on the starter, but it gets you out of light mud.. Honest.. Another way to try is to let the clutch out slowly without revs. The vehicle will often crawl out. (This one works well with automatics but needs the slightest amount of rev.)

If none of that works, send for me. I would load the back of your vehicle down, no problem! :lol:

You could fly down to East Midlands with Eastern Air on the friday morning.

I could collect you ( I'm only 15 mins from EMA) take you to the show and return you for the last plane back north.

Currently I'm North of you (Thurso) I fly up EMA - ABZ - WICK, every Monday and back then home Friday. Been doing it for 6 weeks just another two to do :lol:
