Ah, the deflationary mindset at work. Good innit, at a micro-level.

(at the macro level, shudder).

I just spent a nice 10 minutes browsing this, but it seems only a few of the machines have a decent discount (Ax table saw for example) but most have a very small amount off - in the region of 5-10%. ie not much more than can generally be found off whatever Axminster is promoting in a particular week, just a wider range of machines covered. Not enough to tempt me at the moment as I was not actively looking to buy, but if you had your eye on something before then this is an added incentive. Might gamble for the January sales or a 10% voucher - must be due one anytime now....

The interesting thing with this is, I have an Axy Cat from before the price hike. Most of the machines are just avaible at what they were available before!

I may be tempted by the jet thicknesser.

This might tip me over the edge with my bandsaw purchase, but I can't decide exactly which model just yet...

Cheers, Ed

Shame the carriage isnt cheaper on large orders, I'd have a new morticer but i will let my local shop order it in and deliver it for free.

The big one is only cheaper on 3 phase.

I've been looking at the band saws as well.

I currently have a cheap, nasty table saw that I got from one of the sheds some years ago. I've also got a small, bench top band saw from Screwfix.

Neither of these items are anything to be proud of and I'd like to replace them with something better.

I'd like a "proper" table saw but I don't have the space. I'm thinking a good band saw would be an alternative and would fit my space better.

The AWESBS looks attractive and is the right sort of price, but the AWEFSBB, although being about £100 more, looks even better still!!

I know that I should try to rationalise the purchase decision by comparing specs and deciding what I actually want to do with the saw. I find that quite difficult since I tend to just make stuff when I feel like it!!

What I don't want to do is find that, having bought one, if I'd just spent that little bit more money, I could have got something much better.

Thanks,

Axminster seem to have got caught wrong-footed after years of spoiling us with broadly static or falling prices followed by the huge increases this year. Must be feeling the effects of the crunch now with stock not shifting quickly enough.

I am half heartedly looking at a metalwork lathe (keep trying to stop myself) and was interested, but their price with the vat off is still more than another suppliers normal price and that's before delivery is brought into play, not overly impresssed.
