Not as I remember, I'm glad to say!
The wheels were 4ft in diameter and the saw stood well above me. You had to hold the band with a loop so that you could drop the band over the upper wheel then keep some tension on it as you threaded it around the lower wheel. It was a two man job.
The worst part without a doubt was unwinding the band. Narrow bands were normally stored with one more loop than the smaller saws bands and as it snapped open you certainly didn't want to get caught by the teeth.
Fortunately band changing was not a frequent task as the saw was only used for resawing big billets. Despite the length the bands were only about one and half inches wide and some were narrower. Can't remember the make of the saw but changing bands is firmly embedded in my memory!
 
ha ha... just thinking I could get my workshop in that bandsaw blade :shock:
And I for one wouldnt want to coil that one.. :lol: :lol:
