Roll on winter :D

Yea, verily, the man speaketh for himself. I have exceeded my three-score and ten, and am on borrowed time. Thus, Nature's annual deliverance of snow filleth me with dread and keepeth me within my domicile. But probably I shall still eat my porridge.

John :D
Biblical stuff huh?

A bit out of date John. More like four score years and ten these days so put on your coat and get out there and snowball.

We have to anyway. The chickens still demand food and water and being let out of their fox/dog proof shelters come rain or shine or snow.
But think of all those warm. fresh eggs!

You see the thing is that my wife keeps me so busy that I just can't spare the time. What with the turnin and the mowin and the cookin and ....
...talking of which, having harvested those oh so fresh eggs just this afternoon (and after selling a couple of dozen - they have other advantages too, we provide for all our neighbours too :D ) I just fancy a nice pile of pancakes. Half with a nice fresh lemon from the tree outside and half with Maple syrup from the nice fresh Supermarket up the road.

I will think of you all with your ten day old, probably tasteless by now, pale yolked and not particularly good for you type eggs, as I nosh every single mouthful and lick all the good stuff off the plate afterwards.

Bon apetite

Oh well Gents...

. That does it! I am going to get some battery hens (if they haven't all been rescued by now). I can find space for an A shaped coop I think!

Fresh eggs..... Miam, Miam, Miam!

I'm sure it'll be worth every moment of your time spent mucking them out, feeding them and watering them regularly, making lots of wood shavings so they have a bit of comfort, disposing of said shavings once it hums a bit, paying for all the medicine for this and the treatment for that and having to get the eggs what are stuck up there out without breaking, worrying about them if there are foxes about or the wind is heavy, having to bump them off if they get really ill or..... and...................don't give them names

What's wrong with giving them names?

Wot comes to mind?

One could be called Roast, another Au Vin, another Cous-Cous. The list is never ending?

As for battery. I would recomend Sub C as they last longer than AA and much more than AAA. If you can afford it Duracell Ds last for ever if you believe the adds

Kentucky-fried is a big possibility!

John

I thought we were talking healthy food here

I just remembered that when I was in hospital last, Ronnie told me about one of our more belligerent cockerals and her attempts to convert him.

It included missing several times with a gun. Apparently she managed to get him with a net eventually. I sketched the images formed in my head. I hasten to add that the growth on my wife's chest is in fact two barrels and not a true representation of her female qualities

That's a rather sketchy description to work on... =D>

Nothing unhealthy about my home 'Fried' Chicken. I don't use transfats in the frying! And if they were my own chickens, I would know what they have been fed on. Although I grant you, frying doesn't do much for the chickens' well-being!

:D

I will have you know that I rate KFC very highly and as high as McBurpburgers. About as high up the c r a p scale as they could get

Now, a duck could be called Magret? Not had one of those since last night. It's the duck brest and we always have one between the 2 of us and cooked rare like a GOOD steak! Miam, miam, miam. Washed down with a drop of local, lovely red 8) 8) 8)

Fully agree John. But you are talking about KFC. I wouldn't eat that either. However, prepare this kind of food yourself, and you know what is in it. If you slaughter your own chickens, you have to be on a winner, however you prepare the dish. I feel the same about Hamburgers.. (Nothing to do with Ham BTW, as the Brussels lot believe, but named for where the recipe came from.) We make our own from good quality beef, which we mince ourselves. Of course if you just don't like certain dishes, then that's an end of it I suppose. :) Bottom line, you won't find me in a Macs. Ever

My weaknesses?
Fish and chips. Maybe twice a month.
A Quattro Formaggi, thin base pizza. Special occasions. (Like finishing a woodwork project!)

And a home made Donna-kebab! Made with fresh shredded roast lamb and a Mediterranean salad. Loadsa lemon juice.
Miam, Miam!

I would love to visit France again for the landscape and my painting, but I would have to renew an out of date passport!
Enjoy John...

Regardez Loo, mon ami!
John :)

Oats is one of the cereals that's very good for those suffering from high cholestrol, as I do...but I can't stand the texture or taste of porridge. Gloopy, sticky stuff :-& :-& and I've tried it all ways over the years. My way round the problem is to have a large cupful of extra jumbo oats on my museli and bran in the morning (which has also got oats in it) and in that way it's quite acceptable - Rob

I would point out that the reason my wife had a bit of bovver with the cockeral is that we have Orpingtons. The fellas weigh in at around 6 to 7 kilos each. That is after getting rid of all the extraneous bits. They are big strong boys. I have to do the deed if I'm around because they are just too much for her to cope with on her own.

I don't know if it will show much as I've had to reduce it quite a lot but our garden is about 4 hectares and includes three chicken areas, loads of roses for sale as well as all our fruit and veg.

Edited to add bigger panorama
