I'm making a picnic bench out of whitewood. I'd like to counterbore/plug screwholes, to which end I've bought a Veritas taper plug cutter, which works well. Not having done this before I looked around and found a promo video for the Trend equivalent in which it is claimed that there is no need to glue with tapered plugs. Is that OK d'ye reckon, or would the plugs work their way out with movement of the wood in an outdoor environment?
I realise that I'm worrying about nothing (or very little) - after a couple of weeks of the bench being s*at on by birds &c no one is going to notice glue rings round the plugs, but I'd like to know how it's usually done to add to my store of woodworking knowledge.
Robin.
