Taper Some Grooves Into Oak Board For Belfast Sink Drainer??

Anyone know how i can taper some grooves into oak board i'm turning into a belfast sink drainer..??

All suggestions welcome..

You need to construct a sled that the router is fixed to that slides on some tapered runners fixed to the worktop. A drawing would make it clearer, but hopefully the words may give you the inspiration...

trend make a jig for that exact job, dont know how much they want for it tho, considering you'll probably only want to use it once. could always sell it after youve finished i suppose.

I seem to remember a jig you can buy for that if you want. Pretty sure it was trend. Yup

This is my general arrangement for similar-ish jobs:

The plywood has screwheads underneath to limit extreme movement. In this case I was planing so no stops, but I clamp a stop on the ply "bridge" for a single groove. Candle wax rubbed on the rail tops make it go smoooothly. The Dexion is clamped to the bench at each end with packing underneath to get a slope as required. For working directly on a surface like a worktop you may need to use thinner "rails" depending on the maximum plunge depth of your router.

When I left school I worked for a while in the stores at our local Council depot. I often watched the joiner there grooving draining boards for Council houses. He did them in 10 minutes - maximum, just using a wooden moulding plane. No jigs, no guides - just freehand and perfect every time.
