interesting technique on the half blind dovetail pins on the router table - did you just sort of push the work onto the bit free hand or was there a sliding something somewhere - can't visualize it (or explain it!)

looking good

Yes you sort of push the work towards the router bit - with the fence set up so it is the correct depth. YOu obviously have to be careful as the bit is pulling it left all the time - but if you 'anchor' one end against the fence and then use that to stabilize it works quite well. I use the router bit to get within about 2mm of the line then do the rest by hand with a chisel. I accidentally removed 2 pins by going too far but then just cut another pin and fitted retroispectively after matching the grain

Thanks for all the comments
Finish is planned to be sanding sealer (which reduces the urine-yellow discolouration of ash in IMHO) followed by hardwaxoil
SHould get it finished this week

Yep, it's looking fantastic Mark! Lovely design and I always love walnut (& the smell of cut walnut is lovely too!). Nice work, keep it coming... 8)

cheers

Thanks so much for the nice comments
Handles done tonight....
In the same geometric progression as the heights of the door - so 44 - 39 - 35 - 31.2 - 27.7 - 24.9 - 22 mm
Rough cut out walnut circles on a bandsaw then turned the basic shape to within 1 mm then sanded from 80 - 120 - 180 to 320 G, finished with friction polish

Still have to attach the top, then apply finish all over

Just finished waxing the drawer sides and I am overall pleased. Perhaps a bit similar to the original but it will work well where we want to put it
Finish in the end was sanding sealer, 2 coats hardwaxoil and 2 layers of Briwax

What a superb piece of work. Those corner decorations, long legs, lift it from being just very good to something much, much better. =D> =D>

Fantastic work! That has gone straight into the inspiration folder for future use!

Really Nice piece of work. I like the proportions and the attention to the details. It has that nice combination of looking simple and sophisticated at the same time.
I also like the comination of hand and power tools, very efficient. Something i admire but lack.

Thanks for the replies all of you. I find this site so inspirational from all the helpful comments.
I was hoping that Woodbloke would come by at some stage and tell me why he has such an aversion to walnut where there's sapwood mixed with heartwood??
I used this for the 4 long curved legs - but stained them with Van **** crystals - and then went out of my way to find lovely heartwood for the top - and tried hard to match grain etc - but then I stained that too so that the colour matched the legs but I am not convinced there is any difference between the two and I could probably have just done the top with any old bit of walnut?? It was a real eye-opener seeing how much difference the crystals made. Rob what do you think? The sides and back of the drawers are walnut with warts and all thicknessed to 10mm and it has behaved overall very well indeed.
ANyway thanks again
Mark
