You rout a slot in the table rails and use these to attach the top.

I make them from small blocks of wood two cuts and drill a hole.

I appreciate that possibility - it was how I was taught at college. It's just that the metal ones are commonly used in the States but I can't find a supplier here and postage from US costs an arm and two legs.

No, I never did. Made them the old fashioned way out of beech.

They are available at pretty much all hardware stores here in Canada. I'm surprised there are none in the UK. Strange.

That would certainly do the job. Are CEF just trade? Do they sell such things in small quantities? Any idea of price?
