Hi guys,

am reaslly having some trouble trying to find a good table saw as an upgrade from a cheapo perfomance pro tbale saw.

i need something with a good solid weight to it as will now be doing a lot more work with larger panels, and im sure this is for everyone but a really good fence is key too.

i have have seen a lot of different makes and models ranging in price.

i would just like to know if anyone knows of any second hand at fairly good pricing?

i have seen some on ebay but not sure to be honest.

such as itech, charnwood ( table is tiny ), and some similar, ( my budget isnt huge )

any help and suggestions here would be fantastic?

Kind regards

when you say larger panels do you mean 8x4 size?

I had a small Charnwood saw for about 9 years before it packed in and even then I'd say it only died because i pushed it pretty hard by ripping massive amounts of 26mm flooring for kindling. Once my new workshop is up later this year (if the bloody ground works guys get their fingers out) ill look at another Charnwood.

If your budget is small just now maybe hold off a few months for more funds ??

Yeah but the fence on the Charnwood is a thread rather than the more reliable can clamp types and the table saw top is only 500mm front to back making it a bit too close to the blade for in-feed.

Apart from that I like em lol. Yeah will be about that sizes mostly 6x2 but gonna have a fair bit of stuff slightly closer to the 8x4

The tech one from Scott Seargant looks pretty good. Nice big table cast iron solid bad long ( ish ) solid looking fence. Especially for the price

Hi, my first post here so please be kind. For some years I have been using a Scheppach TKU but, like the OP, want to update to something much better and looks like being a 315mm 01446. Have read Mike.C's review and others, which seem to be good so, the question now seems to be down to which supplier? The SIP version costs from £1,500+ whereas the (seemingly identical) iTECH from Scott & Sargeant is on offer at £925!

Reading through various threads, some people aren't happy with SIP's after sales service and parts availability but very little info about iTECH and Scott and Sargeant. Has anyone had problems with either their product or after sales service?

Dunno about iTech table saws but I recently got an iTech Spindle Moulder from S&S. It's the same as Axi's hobby version (not shown online but in the catalogue) and it seems fine to me. The fence was utter rubbish and quickly achieved escape velocity through the workshop doors to be replaced by homemade MDF version. If you are able to I'd go and take a look for myself before parting with the dosh.
I've often been impressed by a machine on paper only to find that it feels flimsy or badly put together once I've seen it in the flesh.

Thanks for the comments. I've decided to go for the smaller 10" saw, the iTECH 01332 + the wheel kit, £330 cheaper than the SIP version, should be here next week so I'd better get the Scheppach on ebay.

Where an earth did u find it at that price ? Everywhere I have seen has been min 700 and that's eBay lol

Not £330, I wish it was. It's £330 cheaper than SIP version. Scott & Sargeant http://scosarg.com/itech-01332-250mm-ca ... bench.html Price displayed doesn't include VAT and delivery or the wheel base. At least my old Scheppach sold within a day on ebay so now looking around at prices of fairly compact dust extractors.

I've had the SIP version for quite a few years now and it does everything I ask of it. Only thing I will add if I can find one at the right price is a sliding table extension as I have space. They're a pain if your workshop is small
If you're cutting up 8 x 4 sheets though you're better off dimensioning these first with a circular or track saw.

cheers
Bob

If you plan to do a lot of work with sheet goods, then a vertical panel saw would be convenient to have.
A good one costs a bit, but people have made functional ones from a variety of materials.
It also takes up less space than a TS that can manage large panels.

Thanks Bob,
My saw arrived on Thursday, assembled on Friday. The iTECH is identical to the SIP with the same Chinese/English manual. Disappointed in with a couple of things - the mitre gauge is a joke, seen more accurate ones on cheap bench top saws, this is very sloppy in top of T slot, but will be making sleds anyway; second problem is both T slots being badly machined to the point where I can't get a nut into one and it will only slide 2/3 along the other. Looking at the bottom of the track, the widest part is off centre on both. Will have a word with suppliers on Tuesday when back at work.
Graham.

The slots on mine are ok Graham but I guess most of the machinery you buy these days needs to be fettled.

Still very happy indeed with my xcalibur (harvey) which ticks most of the boxes above and is about 1,500
