Is there a supplier of quality table saw blades that most here agree Is the go to supplier?

Freud are a good quality mid-price readily available brand. They have good sized tips to allow numerous sharpening. I took one into the saw doctor today for its fourth sharpening and they are still happy it has enough meat for another re-grind.
I'd stay away from the silverline and aldidl cheapies especially if you are going to get them sharpened.

I think unless they actually make the blades then the one who offers the best deal is the one to go to , a Freud blade is the same from all suppliers. However having a supplier that knows what you want even if you don't is priceless(y)

Member Trevanion who frequents another place nowadays, has made an extremely
good write up titled 'A Guide to Circular Saw Blades'
Worth looking at if you know where "the other place" is, not sure if were allowed mention it, or giving links.
All I can say it's likely google-able if searching for a 'machines & power toolery' section.

You haven’t used them yet and you’re recommending them, on the basis of what, nice website, pretty colour, what?
If you read my post I merely suggested taking a look, I haven't recommended them. As it happens I found them after reading a couple of recommendations on this forum.

Try Atkinson Walker in Sheffield, or one of their agents. I used to be an agent in South Wales a few years ago. Great company. We never had any complaints from our customers in over 10 years with their blade quality. UK made too.
I have been out of the wood tooling game for quite a few years now mind.
I have just looked AW up and they have merged into another company. I suspect that the owner retired and the kids weren’t interested in taking the business on.

Hi

Paul these are good blades, I think too many people just buy a blade based on cost without looking to find out more, Freud may be cheaper but with cutting tools you really only get what you pay for and Sheffield industrial saws were very helpful.
Perhaps you know a few more details Paul, I had some confusion the other year with AW blades. It turns out there are two companies in Sheffield, one called Sheffield industrial saws which you have mentioned who state they have taken over AW saws from whom I purchased several blades directly for a table saw that are made in Sheffield. I had also brough a Walker saw blade previously from the North of England woodworking show from a company called AW tools for my mitre saw, also in Sheffield, Tungsten Carbide Tipped Circular Saw Blades as you can see a lot of similarities, are there any connections as I suspect AW tool blades are imports.

I've used cutting solutions and been very happy. Not the cheapest, but loads of carbide for the cutter grinders to work with.
Doug Perry has always been very helpful when I've needed a question answering.

Cutting Solutions seconded by me, I have 3 blades, plenty of carbide on them and some specialist grinds if that’s what you need.

+1 for cutting solutions, excellent service, advice and product.

ive also used Freud, on my mitre saw, which have been very good too.

Sorry mate, feeling a little tetchy last night and you got the fallout, I’m afraid lockdown fever got the better of me. Please accept my apologies.

I've used Swedex blades recently. I bought from Lancashire Saw company, but they're also available from Beverstock in Wales. I've a 315mm rip blade in my saw at present - 90% of the stock I rip is olive and it shows up when a blade's not sharp. The Swedex came out of the packet good and sharp and I've been pleased with it.

AW Tools is run by some of the directors of the old Atkinson Walker.
I don’t know what happened because when the saw doctors shut down I pulled away from doing tooling.
I did find the following:

I have been in the now derelict building and it was a little sad to see it like that.

The companies can be found on the Companies House website and from there to the directors to see the lineage.

Well during my time I have seen Great Britain falling apart and those pictures remind me of so much of our great industrial heritage that is no more, and just think about the loss of skills that would have been passed down through the generations. When I was young Sheffield steel was the envy of the world and just as famous. People today cannot imagine the industry we had back in the sixties & seventies unless they were of that generation, jobs were plentiful and there were so many big employers, when living down south in Chelmsford we had RHP bearings, EEV making imaging & transmitting tubes, Marconi Marine & communication as well as Cromptons and so many others, now all gone along with all those people leaving Chelmsford as just a dormatory town to feed London jobs. Perhaps in their old age they are now tinkering with woodwork and have time to spend in their sheds, only problem is that some of the large timber yards in the area have also gone.
