Ha, ha.

Did he also agree that the sawblades were massively underpriced and that he ought to add 50% to your bill?

Ok Now I'm lost!! (doesn't take much) The saw that I had on before was 3mm the riving knife is 4mm, according to my micrometer. I wish I could find my instruction for the saw but my throw it anywhere filing system fails miserably cant understand why?

Keep up the constructive replies.

Thinking about it logically, how would a riving knife that was not as thick as the blade stop kickback?

Just found this at:- http://www.diydata.com/tool/saw/circularsaw.php

"The riving knife is positioned behind the saw blade, it's purpose is to prevent the freshly cut timber from closing up onto the blade, The knife needs to be thicker than the plate of the saw blade and narrower than the saw cut - it must be centred on the saw blade. The front edge of the knife is curved and the gap between it and the blade should generally be less than 12mm at any point. A replacement riving knife will probably need to be fitted if a replacement saw blade which is either thinner or thicker is fitted or if the new blade is of a substantially different diameter. It will also need replacing if it becomes damaged.

As with blade guards, if you are offered an old saw without a riving knife, decline the generous offer."

Comments appreciated...

Thanks Jake

Back to the supplier tommorow. I have emailed Axminster technical to find out correct sizes.

Double-check the thickness of your riving knife very carefully. As Jason (I think) said, 4.15mm would be very thick for that size of saw, and if the riving knife is that thick, I doubt it is within their intended tolerance.

Freud Diablo 250dia 30bore 2.8kerf 40 teeth - £22.00

Not sure if I have had my proverbial pulled.

Without checking, the price sounds fine. I just meant that he was just agreeing to anything to make the sale to you (or else he's just too ignorant to be selling them really).

If you are not sure you are reading the mic right, try it on a few drill bit shanks of known diameter and see if you read what the drill is supposed to be.

Jason
Now I need my eyes testing. Dare I admit it I read the NEW micrometer wrong the first 5mm has double increments and after taking Jasons advice I confirmed my lack of experience. Good job I did not take it out on the supplier!! I would have looked even more of a twirp!!

The riving Knife measures 2.5mm the blades Kerf is 2.8mm!

Measure Twice, cut once.
