Who said that Switzerland hasn't got a Navy? In fact according to what I've read about recent UK defence reviews I think "our" aircraft carrier may probably bigger than anything the RN has got now!

I salute the Swiss Navy’s ingenuity!

However you should know that our carriers are on their way - any decade now. Of course the thorny problem is not having enough money to buy an F-35 apiece to sit atop them.
I therefore think this suggestion, published in a letter in The Independent on 3 September 2013, more than ever now deserves our serious consideration:

I hope the catapult on that thing is amazingly powerful, or someone's going for a swim!

It's typical Swiss efficiency: the recoil from launching the plane is used to push the barge back into port, to get the next one.

The Swiss even have (had) underground airfields, insofar as the start of the runway is in a tunnel.

There's a good picture sequence on the Telegraph web site this morning, of decomissioned Swiss forts and their camouflage. There's a brilliant one disguised as an old barn, and a gun emplacement with chains hanging over the front, presumably to mimc a waterfall.

We're quite good at it too - two daft money sinks disguised as aircraft carriers. ;-)

They will have to be a bit careful with that F35 though?

They haven't been very careful with it so far - it's so beaten up it looks like a Super Hornet!

Dunno why u guys are taking the mickey out of the Senior Service - loadsa new craft coming soon....http://www.theengineer.co.uk/bae-system ... oyal-navy/

These will put the rest of the world back in it's place. I wonder how many Admiral positions for 60 new craft?

I want to see if they have any 14" bang sticks on 'em?

The Royal Air Force call the fleet air arm 'penguins'. The idea being 'all flap, no fly' and it looks pretty good at the moment. Not sure where the name 'crab fats' came from though :? :?
