OK I'll fall for it!

Boil for 5 minutes and drain.
Cutt a small cross in the pointy end and roast at Mk 6 for about 30 mins should do it.

Tung or Danish oil.

Both wax and oils work well with Chestnut. It depends what the finished article is and where/how it is going to be used - can you add a bit more context?

Thanks for all the feedback it is a natural edged mirror frame sanded to 400 grit

Shellac sanding sealer and wax, quick and easy.
