One of my hobbies is knife collecting, but my collection is growing, while the space to store them seems to be shrinking.
I like the engineers chests of old, so over the last few weeks when I was able to get into my workshop, I came up with this:
The five drawers contain foam, which I have cut to take my folding knives, while the Fixed Blades go in the top:
The chest is made from solid Oak, with brass fittings.
The finished size is 60 x 40 x 27.5 cm. As I wanteded something a bit on the robust side, I used 20mm thick oak - however the thing is really heavy without anything in it! I should have put wheels on it rather than carrying handles
I hand sanded it to 1200 grit and then finished it with Danish Oil and Paste Wax. It has finished very well, with a good shine that the pictures don't show.
I am pleased with it (faults and all  ), but it is already nearly full, with space for only another 5 knives  ), so I am already planning another one!
