I was browsing in an out-of-my-area Aldi at the cheap and cheerful tools (like you do), when I stumbled across this 'ash vac can' for £17. I hadn't seen one on their email flyer nor in my local Aldi. I had to get one and try it out, I've made a little video for you guys. They still have about 5 there, I may well buy a couple to attach to different machines independently.

I should add that you don't get the vac, just the can and lid with accessories and a 1M length of hose. Theres a 5 minute self assembly process involved too.

Surprising what they get used for, not just ash, sawdust and wood shavings.
Also handy for collecting bee swarms from awkward places aka a bee vac.

So does this empty from a hoover to this vacuum? Not quite sure what i am looking at??

You connect your vac pipe to it and use the hose coming out of the drum to suck up the debris, which then ends up in the drum rather than your vac. It means you don't have to empty the vac every five minutes.

That's odd, the top half dozen posts show that they were posted yesterday............they weren't they were posted today.

whether they were posted yesterday or today .... I'm posting this now .... good thing for catching ash or dust. Grounds it in a can before it gets to the vacuum cleaner, or the vacuum cleaners filter.

Thanks Grayorm. =D>

I'm bereft Phil. I took the time to video my new gadget just for the forum, uploaded it, posted it, and out of 344 views only 1 person has thanked me (thanks for the thanks Richard T). 'They' just don't love me any more. I post tip-offs for Ebay and get shot down, I make epic movies for 'them' all to no avail. I feel used and dirty. I'm going to blunt one of my planes on some painted wood with nails in it just for spite, that'll teach 'em. :deer :deer :deer (deer, deer, deer).

Aw c'mon Grayorm  Life's too short to get all het up just 'cos people haven't posted replies or thanks, (maybe none of those wh viewed thought it useful?) I'm sure somebody out there still loves ya !!

I've just read the posts btw and I've had one of these since last year and it is quite useful - so thanks for posting. :)

Bob

PS - please don't blunt your plane. You'll have to post a sharpening video and that'll start an all out war (hammer)

Got one a couple of years ago, saves a lot of wear and tear on your vac and it even works real well getting the ash and clinker from those awkward to get at areas in your coal fire/wood burner. Best of all the boss doesent mind me using the house vac for jobs she needs doing around the house.
Just one word of caution i seem to remember reading somewhere that you should not use a Dyson type vac but i'am buggered if i can remember the reason why.

Thank you Greyorm i liked your little vid, please send me your blunt plane when you are done throwing a hissy fit because your blunt plane is gonna be sharper than my sharp one
