The current project is a bar stool based on Oscar Pipson's 'Elka' design. The prototype has gone from this confection of pine blocks...

...which looks like something Picasso knocked up in his T break. After much grinding, gouging, spokeshaving and rasp work the final form is beginning to emerge;

It still looks 'heavy' in places and there's lots more material to gouge away from the underside of the seat, but it's getting there....sloooowly - Rob

Thanks Glynne...all the ruff stuff was done with the five tooth tct cutter from Ax in an angle grinder, thereafter with gouges, spokeshaves and a coarse rasp. This is the pine prototype and I 'only' have another three proper ones to make from ash; at the rate of current progress, they should be finished sometime next summer! - Rob

First class result! Of course, Oscar Pipson had the "advantage" of a Techno CNC Flatbed Router to make his prototype, whereas your prototype also has the DNA look of multi-axis CNC machining just with a "human" touch added. He has the advantage of subtle studio modelling lighting (and some) to show off his work.

His inspiration was the antlers and splayed slender legs but he didn't distinguish between Cervinae and Capreolinae, so there is potential for a whole family of new interpretations. Most deer have new antlers each year and his design left the joint "loose" between the uprights and the back (antlers).
