Very nice JT :D
Lovely piece of wood, and nicely finished.
I think the outer rim is too uniform and would like to see some of the rays been longer, and with some of those rradial lines coming from the middle out,if yiou see what i mean.
Just my thoughts :D
Very effective though.

looks so good JT i can feel the heat from here

do you cut out the 'flames' random or do you draw them first.

Very effective, especially with the decorations on the 'rays'.

Inclined to agree with Paul J tho', a little more variation would stop it resembling a circular saw blade at first glance.

But who am to be critical, it's miles better than anything I've produced!

Thanks guys 8)

Paul and Roy, I know wher your'e comming from and the thought crossed my mind to do a second inner set of rays between the first but I felt to make that work would involve carving back onto the flat to give the shape, something i wasn't comfortable enough with to risk the bowl after making it.

Steve the little one I posted yesterday was done random but with it being a fair bit further round this one and therefore the chance to muck it up being increased I opted to mark out the 16 points around the edge and then inbetween them around a circle marked on the back. Then I just cut in an 'unstraight'(good word eh?) fashion between the dots.

Boysie, Thanks :D

Certainly "ecliped" my latest bowl effort ! :D

Nice Johnny, Is the ring on the bowl top an inset darker wood, a stained ring, or a groove ? - can't tell on my crappy screen at work.

Loz

Thanks Dermot, I will do more and see how they evolve, but out and out carving to really shape up the rays scares me

Cheers Loz, the ring is a groove that has then been stained.

After doing that with a bandsaw you'ver not used before I find that hard to believe somehow. Get on with it you wimp

I expect Binh Pho type stuff by Christmas

Pete

JT, you can always turn the blank and experiment with carving the "rays" section before turning the bowl, this will allow you to challenge your skills without worrying about making mistakes (and if you are not worrying about worrying you will relax and might suprise yourself!) great to see your work and look forward to seeing your other items, keep us posted.
Regards Chris.
