I have just bought a Stanley No 43 saw set ( from trip to Westonbirt ). It seems to be very adjustable though on examination the hammer seems a little larger than I expected.

I'm currently taking it apart and cleaning and oiling.

Does anyone have any advice about adjustments, how to set up with a saw to set.

regards
Alan

Alan, don't want to be the bringer of bad news but the #43 is designed for big teeth. From the Saw Set Collector's Resource:
No 43 large cross cut saws such as buck saws, two man saws and circular saws, 11 gauge or thinner having 5 or less teeth to the inch, made from 1919 to 1972
Sorry. :( Of course you're sorted when you get further down the slope and start buying two-man saws...

Cheers, Alf

Alf,
Ahhhh....got it wrong again. I "measured" it against my rip and cross cuts and found that the hammer/anvil was too large. Just finished a clean up though and its an interesting gadget with adjustment in all planes.

My brother and his sons have a two handed saw he uses for cutting down smaller trees, its more efficient than a chain saw he says. Guess what he will be getting for his birthday.

Thanks
best regards
Alan
