Staining sapele

I’m putting in a new front doorstep in sapele. Now to go with the rest of the decor it needs to be black, at least satin and maybe gloss. What stain/paint should I use for this?

Any good black gloss would do if you just want it painted.

But then again if you didn't want the hassle of recoating it next year :wink: you could either use Bedec as favoured by MikeG or black linseed oil paint.

I am a bit worried about normal gloss paint on a doorstep wearing off too easily.
