A lovely sketch - I wish I had a tenth of your skill. The face is so expressive, and the eyes have so much life that I had a real sense of a puppy presence.

Might I make an observation? It took me a moment to realise that the body was fading out to the left. I thought the head was straight on, and my mind tried to interpret the fading body as a twig stuck to the dogs head! I think this may be because of the shark contrast between the hours head and the body. Maybe reducing the contrast an making the fade smoother would help. Or maybe I am just odd. I actually think that the picture would work just as well without the body - the head is just so captivating.

Shouldn't really comment as I have the artistic talent of a mole rat.

The head is great but I agree with Phill just lose the leaf / body.

Thanks guys, the picture I drew this from was a colour one and the fading body looked rather good, however I do agree that maybe I should remove it altogether if it's causing people to question 'what ' it is, thank you for your input, duly noted and when my art teacher comes back from holiday I will take it down from the class wall and sort it out, thank you..

Thank you guys, I have a graphite lesson booked for later this year and attend a painting class every week, really getting to love it, hoping to do more shortly..

That's really nice, reminds me so much of our old spaniel whose name, believe it or not was Rufus!

The picture was from the internet as getting good quality pictures from people is difficult, my wife made up the name but I think it's fitting for the picture, thank you all for your comments..

Hi Steve,
Brilliant drawing you have fantastic hand eye co-ordination, as I've also seen from your scroll work. Is this a talent you've always known and used say in your employment/free time, or is it newly discovered?

Hi smoggy
I have been using the scroll saw for quite a few years but couldn't cut a straight line when I first started, enjoyed it so much I just carried on practising and it eventually came together.

I gave most of what I cut away to friends and someone said why don't you try and sell them, so cabin crafts was born even though I had a full time job as well, I was really busy with it and picked up a client that I still cut for that owns a cnc router and a laser cutter but can't cut the thickness I can, I currently have an order for 200 items waiting to be cut for Christmas..

The drawing I have done since being a lad on and off, I have always anchored after producing something worthy of a wall hanging but not been that good, but hopefully as I progress I will eventually produce something close..

I honestly would not have known that it was a drawing if you hadn't said it was =D> =D> =D>
Seconded, you have a gift that really can't be taught.

I sincerely hope it can be taught as I am learning at the moment, all it takes is practise and enthusiasm , thank you for your very kind words..

hi Steve,

Thanks for the insight, if only to reiterate what's already been said here you truly have a natural talent for real art. And by real I mean not some of the cr@p that passes for art! I know I'm a Luddite but " I don't know much about art , but I know what I like" has never rang truer for me if it doesn't look like a photo it isn't real art. And yours falls into the real art class, thanks for sharing.

Chas
