Hi folks
Well it had to happen, for the first time just as I`m shaping something that actually resembles what I`m trying to make (a vase out of silver birch) the law of sod kicked in and the lathe belt snapped  .
The lathe is the little variable speed Draper WTL90. Stamped on whats left of the belt is `Mitsubishi 10x560Li z-22 which I assume is the width (10mm) by the length (560mm) anyone know where to get these from please?.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve. sorry this is so late.

I've got the same lathe as you and the belt shredded within 3 weeks from new. I emailed Draper and they sent me a free replacement in the post.

In the meanwhile I went to my local high street Autobits/automotive factor and bought a fan belt by quoting the sizes ... and would you believe they vary in price according to the make of car it's supposed to fit, even though it's exactly the same belt.

Contrary to what it says in the instuctions I had to dismantle the front pulley because there isn't enough room between the pulley rim and the headstock casting to remove the belt. I also tried grinding the roughness off the internal casting to make enough room without success.

A (decent) pair of circlip pliers will ease the job considerably.

The speeds on these chinese 10 speed lathes are notorious for sticking so I used a 4" holesaw to remove the dome from the pulley cover. This allows me quick access to the pulleys and also seems to have lengthened the time between them needing attention ... probably because the motor blows dust in and the hole is now letting it out. It may also be because now the weather has got colder, I'm not spending so much time turning.

Thanks for that Wasbit!
Managed to get one fairly locally for £7. It seems a bit thicker than my old one but seems to do the job ok. Could have ordered one online for £3.50 +pp, its amazing what profits can be made on things nowadays.I once bought a pair of bino`s for £350 and the dealer had left the delivery invoice in it -£140 to the shop???? nice work if you can get it.
Cheers
Steve
