Spanners

not being a big user of the above personally, but we all have a set
so don't need a big roller bearing toolbox cabinet that costs 3 x more than the contents (and really don't have room for one)
what do you do?
throw them in a drawer and hunt for the one you want?
hang them from the wall?
any ideas ?
same question for sockets

I have a few plastic cantilever toolboxes (ex British Telecom issue) similar to this ..,

One is full of sockets & spanners. It's damn heavy but unbreakable, you can even stand on them.

I'd use one of these https://goo.gl/1A8QPT for spanners and https://goo.gl/SiuVQ1 for sockets. Nice and tidy, easy to find the size you want and portable.

I find it's best to randomly distribute them around your workshop such that whenever you need a particular spanner, there's pretty much no chance of finding it!

I have one of these in the van - it is tiny but does most things. Just about fits on my opened hand.

I have other tools as well - in a small 'canvas' shoulder bag, but the toolcheck is the core of the 'van tools' and sets the tone for minimalist and small.

Edit: in the house I have a semi-organised collection of plastic toolboxes. Loosely organised by purpose carving, carpentry, engineering, heavy-duty (pry bars, lump hammers, bolsters)........

perfect opportunity to make yourself a spanner rack (like the plastic one posted above but in wood). if your not in to hanging tools on walls, make a little box too.

there is very little more annoying than having to search for a tool, especially when the solution is so simple and takes up no less space.

dont see why I could not make that
and I could get some socket holders or just put some dowels in a board
It is something that I have and need but not used often so a dedicated area on a wall is not really important to me
but one less thing to worry about as I sort through everything
I guess most of us have a few tools that are needed but rarely used

my rail is made of steel (because I play with that too) and the sockets are all on HDPE pins in the top of the box, it's really anal but I hate searching for spanners and sockets when I need them, I guess I use mine more than most though.

and now a perfect time for gratuitous pictures. lol

I just use a large size of the classic cantilever steel box. Hold just about all the mechanic tools I have.
Snag is, when full, it's very, very heavy!

If you can hold on till they are on sale again I got a few Vaunt ones from ITS. They were half price plus one free. So work out about £4 each for the 34 cm size in the link below which is ridiculous value. They are not bomb proof site type standard but fine for storage in a workshop etc.
Personally I like to wear a black suit and shades and carry one about pretending I have a disassembled sniper rifle in mine. But I suppose you could just put spanners in them.

6 inch or longer screw and hook the biggest to the back then smaller coming forward. Cheap and simple for occasional users
