Noticed some funghi growing from some logs in the woodpile (...destined for the woodburning stove) opened them up and hey presto Spalted Holly, never seen it before on Holly, though I suppose everything spalts to some extent. I'll post some piccy's once it's dried and turned.

I also saved all the offcut funghi'd bits and will be carefully interspersing those between bits of Beech,Sycamore etc.

I was lucky enough to get some spalted holly a few years back and it was stunning. I think it may have started whilst the tree was still living as the log had a dead knot in it that had been open to the elements.



I kept some of the shavings but couldn't get it to spread to other wood.

Very nice !!, And holly is supposed to be boring and featureless !!
