Well I have finally had time (pesky wife and kids), and completed my assembly of my grinding jig, (taken from the bible) no where as pretty as some that have been posted on here, but it works and is square and strong, the bit you place the chisel on is oak.

What a difference, my megre old collection of chisels and gouges now have a proper shape and even grind across them. Could not resist have a quick play to see if it has made a difference. My word! Had quite a few instances of the wood coming off like pencil sharpenings, alot ALOT less tear out and it just felt so much easier.

Now must stop mucking about, tidy up and read some more of the book!

Hi Matt.

Ideal for starting off sharpening. Now as Steve said, you need to make a fingernail profile jig, the one he mentions is as easy to put tiogether as the one you have just done.

 Just one tip about your existing jig. Knock the corners off the posts so as you can swing your tools from side to side if needed. The two corners showing over the jig table top closest to you. It will make it a lot more versatile.

Curses - jusy KNEW someone would spot that, I forgot in my haste to put it together!

Remembered oh 5 mins after posting the picture. I'll make it my first job tonight. Assuming the wife has forgiven me for being down there all night
(although she come round a bit when she started to think of things she would
like me to make - fruit bowl and egg cups are first up!)

Matt

Looks a good jig Matt, well done.
I take it you`re finding the "Bible" very useful?
Look forward to see the eggcups & bowl.
Cheers.
