I noticed in the new issue of Good Woodworking an advertisemt from Sorby for a new hollowing tool called Ultima. Has anyone seen one? I can see that the specification is posted on the Sorby web site but I cannot see any prices. I have looked at the regular sites -Turners Retreat, Toolpost, Axminster - and cannot find anything. Did they have it at Yandles?

The spec looks interesting but at what price?

Andie

I've just had a google and found these prices from the Turner's Cabin at Lincoln

Small Sovereign Ultima Hollowing System (SOV16S-ULTS) £104.16+VAT
Medium Sovereign Ultima Hollowing System (SOV22S-ULTM) £116.67+VAT
Small Sovereign Ultima Hollowing Tool Blade (SOV-RSULTS) £70.83+VAT
Medium Sovereign Ultima Hollowing Tool Blade (SOV-RSULTM) £79.17+VAT

Steve :)

Handled one, well both sizes, today at Yandles; looks well made.
The ease of adjustment of the cutter depth looks interesting.
Head assembly is somewhat bulkier than the Munroe but to what extent this is a restriction in use I would not like to hazard without a hands on trial, I suspect it would only be a factor if you were into very small openings or smaller diameter bores.

Thanks for the information. It looks interesting.
I assume Sorby will have it on their stand at the forthcoming woodworking exhibition in Edinburgh. If it works well it could be on my Christmas wish list.

Thanks for the heads up Andie not seen this tool yet, looks like something to check out at the Harrogate show also
