I've just had a phone call from company. I nearly just put the phone down (I usually do when they can't even get my name right) but it turns out they were calling about our burglary a while back.

One of the things that was nicked was the memory card from my camera. Zurich said I could go out and buy one, I did and sent in the invoice.

This company today rang to say they couldn't get a memory card for my camera but they had found aanother one which would fit, and would I accept a Fuji S9600 as a replacement for my stolen camera.

I should have just kept quiet, but I opened my big gob and pointed out that I had already bought a replacement card and my camera wasn't stolen and I hadn't claimed for one.

"Oh", she said. End of conversation!

And to think I could have had a nice new camera... Sigh.

If only everyone could be as honest, then maybe all our premiums would be lower.

I figure it all goes around and comes around. If you're a nice guy then nice things tend to happen to you. I reckon there's a reason why people on this forum get lucky from time to time being given lots of woodworking tools and machinery by friends, neighbors and relatives.

If you'd got the new camera from the insurance company, some bugger would probably break in to knick it anyway.

Always pays to be honest.

If you see some of the dodgy characters I work for and the multi-million pound houses they live in, I would have to disagree with your statement.

as for me I couldn't sleep at night if I thought I was ripping people off, but I'm sure these guys sleep like babies, suppose it just depends on your mind set.

Good for you Steve

I was brought up to do that as were I suspect most of the members. It's definitely a case of do as you would be done by.

Enough already, I wasn't looking for plaudits, I was more musing on the incompetence of the insurance industry.

Actually, when the call-handler told me that if they couldn't find a card they'd give me a new camera I was horrified. I like my camera, I know how to use it (at least, the basics) and I'm well aware how long it takes to get to know a new one, so I really didn't want that learning curve.

The pics I take for GW are normally 3mpx and occasionally I'll take a 6mpx one for the main pic. They come out fine on the page, so why do I need a 9mpx one? I don't.

I was just rather surprised at their eagerness to ply goods onto me for which I'd not even claimed!

Well if we are going to move into that territory, perhaps someone would like to compare the clock in last month's GW with the one in GW 159.

I don't blame the editorial team, they weren't around then, but someone is having a laugh, aren't they?
