Actually there's little point in securing it to the tailstock unless you are prepared to slide the whole tailstock when drilling rather than winding the quill out.

Phil on some lathes like my Nova 3000, the threads on the quill are outside thus the length doesn't change when run in or out. It can be used with a drawbar without having to slide the whole tailstock.
