I posted some piccys of my friend Franks work some time ago and said i would take some piccys of his better work when i next visited his house.
That hasn't happened but he did pop in today to show me some of the bowls he's turned from the wood we got a while back.
These are all Laburnum, natural edge and these were all dried in the microwave.
All finished with sanding sealer and woodwax22,with a mop.

I and his wife keep telling him he should do a craft show or two to sell some of his work but he thinks it's not good enough

Hi,

You only need to spend some time on these forums to realise just how many talented turners don't think much of there own work.

Perhaps your Friend is nervous about the prospect of selling his work?

If you look at these pieces objectively then they are clearly good enough to be sold.

Marks comment shouldn't be treated to lightly either, if any one knows about trying to make a living form selling your work then Marks your man.

Cheers.

That is is problem Lee.He really does think his work isn't upto standard. What standard he is looking at i don't know.
His house is full of his turnings and some, well most are most impressive especially the boxes he makes.Just a pity he hasn't got a computer to show it all off.

Hi Paul,

Does your friend want to sell his work?

I'm sure there are many turners out there who don't like the idea of selling there work, I for one am not too keen on selling my work, I don't want to make a living from turning and i'd much rather give my pieces away as gifts.

Maybe your friend is quite happy in what he's doing and perhaps he's not concerned about selling.

His work is definately of a high standard and I'm sure he's quite deluded about wether it's saleable.

Cheers.

I am only going by what him and his wife have said Lee and, that he could do with selling some of his work,as he has so much.
Impression i get is that he honestly feels that his work isn't good enough to sell :?
I have even offered to do a craft show with him, which his wife as also offered to do with him,but he just doesn't want to.
I think it is lack of confidence meself, even though he has been turning for over twenty years.

I geuss it's something he'll have to decide for himself.

Sometimes people are never ready and maybe your friend is similar.

Hope he maintains his motivation and creativity and the thought of selling his work causes him no negative side effetcs.

Cheers.

That quality of work is way beyond the average stuff you see in a craft show. Sounds like a perfectionist with no confidence. Perhaps if he went along to one and saw some of the things people are selling it might make him realise that his work is top drawer. As Mark said, if those photos are accurate this would be wasted at a craft show, he'd never get it's true value. Nor often you see a simple basic piece of turning that oozes quality as these do. Maybe do a print out of the responses to show him, or next time he is around your house show him for himself on your computer

Like wot they all said.
They are stunning pieces of work of the highest quality. The mind boggles as to what standard he aspires to.
