Could certainly have made use of one of those a few times in my life.

1947 we were snowed in, in the severn valley for 14 weeks. and 1962/3 I had to walk 6 miles too and from my nearest transport point to get to work.

I wonder if the concept ever made it to regular production.

I remember seeing a documentary following a team trying to cross the Bering straight in a vehicle using this propulsion system. The BBC report is here and the team's website is here

Most impressive, feel sure I have seen something similar before, the "tracks" look very familiar, might have been another snow vehicle or could have been a waterborne vehicle - think it would work on water, just need deeper grooves

Great stuff Travis. The 'screws' look very modern. Marvelous concept. The steering must use clutches similar to a Caterpillar tractor.
Cheers,
Jim

I NEED one of these machines NOW!

(How would I hide this under the bench until I need the - 'oh, that old thing, I've had that for ages' - line?))

Makes you wonder why it did not catch on, H&S of the open chain drive
