Has this ever happened to anybody else

DSC00082.jpg

It is a 1/2" shank, 50mm long CMT replaceable tip cutter. It had a fresh blade in it.

It happened when I was cutting the bolt recesses on some oak worktops yesterday. I've only had it a couple of weeks - this was only the second job I had used it on.

Will have to give Axminster a ring today.

Cheers

I have had a few of the replaceable blades break while using mine but i would have thought thats its more likely a fault in the metal to have the cutter snap like that. I have had a few 1/4 inch cutters snap on me but never a 1/2 inch one.

Cheers

This cutter shows signs of 'fretting' brown marks on the shank of a router cutter are a sign of worn collets. The brown stain is caused by vibration that occurs during the cutting cycle.
The collet fails to grip the shank correctly and causes the vibration.
The vibration , if aloud to continue will cause the tool to shear.

The only solution is to replace the collet.

Collets should be kept clean and free from resin, use brass collets brushes each time to remove the tool.
