I'm currently in the process of building a crosscut sled for my Kity 419. I am mounting two 5mm thick HDPE runners onto the bottom of some 9mm mdf sheet. What I need, however are some small countersunk screws that I can screw up through the runners into the mdf without them poking through the other side (top) of the mdf.

Anybody got any recommendations for suitable screws?

I know a simple answer would be to use some thicker mdf for the sled, but at full height my Kity has 62mm blade exposed, and using 12mm mdf would mean I couldn't quite hit my desired 50mm max cut with the sled.

Thanks

Si.

Why not use csk machine screws (4mm?) with the nuts recessed into blind holes in the MDF, much more secure than short wood screws in MDF

just glue them on with PVA ,mine have been on for years.the glue is strong enough.

Ryders of Bury sell every imaginable screw you can think of. In fact they sell some screws that are too small to even imagine.
They have an internet site but I don't have the address to hand but you'll find it through google no problem.

I don't think you could glue HDPE onto MDF very successfully. But the runners could be beech or oak and work just as well. Keep them waxed. Or make the runners narrower than the slot and us small brass screws to take up the slack. Hmm, maybe not on a Kity if the table is aluminium rather than cast iron.

Or screw down through the MDF into the HDPE.

Lots of options, Simon.
