Several weeks ago I picked up this mahogany board for £3 at the local car boot sale.

Today I ripped down the middle first so it would go through the thicknesser.
Then I cut one board the nearest to the camera, the two pieces that will form the top and three of the rails.
The furthest board will make the forth rail, the rest will be for the legs.

All the pieces cut. Two pieces for the top. Four rails. Eight pieces for the legs.

The legs all sized through the thicknesser and cut to the exact same length using a stop on the mitre saw.

The top cut to size using a crosscut sled and perfectly cut square with the use of the stop off the Mitre saw.

The legs are ready for mortices and tapering. The top is finished. The rails need a final cut to length and tennons cut.

Cutting the tenon shoulders for the rails, doing it like this means they are all exact and the same says I

All shoulders cut and I says again, all exactly the same.

Rails nearly finished just need to route a groove on the inside face to fix the top using buttons.

nice work Nibbo - did you get a final identification of that expensive wood?
No I didn't, so I'm just assuming it is Mahogany, it is very close grained but there is no noticeable smell to it. It is very red, just look at the saw dust colour in this pic

For better view look at the big pic back up the thread.

So this morning I got some more done.

It is actually glued up now and later I'll fix the top on.

LN,
It's going to be a nice little table. If you can, I suggest you lay the boards for the top all one way, otherwise you may find the alternating lustre of the finished mahogany unwelcome. (It will look dark or light depending which direction you view it from).

Neil,
Several woods display a high directional lustre but Brazilian mahogany (which is what I think LN's wood is) is one of the highest I know of. It can be used to advantage in making say a chessboard and FWW mag carried a gorgeous screen some time ago, made up of small squares set at different angles that reflected light like the facets of a jewel.

Well you learn something here every day, I didn't know that. But it's too late . It's had a coat of celulose sanding sealer knocked back with some 400 and a coat of finish oil it looks pretty good. In the morning I'll take a pic from two different directions to see if it's noticeable.

One coat of celulose sanding sealer, two coats of finishing oil. No wax yet.

Viewed with the table turned round, light does make the colours change from where viewed but not a lot to the top, it's more noticeable in the rails.

The colour change is not so noticeable out of the sun light but waterhead is right it does change colour if viewed from different angles.

Turned out really nice, that was a good buy at £3.:D

I have never used tapered legs, most of the small tables I have made have laser printers stood on them, must try and do one as they do look good on your one.
