I am sure somewhere I have seen a picture of a row of plug sockets in a workshop enviroment which fit in a channel and slide along to provide a flexible power source.

Is it my imagination? or is there such a set-up? A pointer if anyone knows would be very helpful.

Cheers, Tony.

I have no knowledge of the sliding arrangement but my guess is that a number of fixed double 13a sockets would work out less expensive and last longer.

Are you simply talking about Dado Trunking? You can slide the sockets around on that system. Or do you want a system where you can slide the sockets regularly?

I'd also agree that just having as many sockets as you can afford peppered all over the shop.

I suspect it's Dado trunking as well - but as we know they only slide the 1st time, i.e. when deciding where to fit them, after that - fixed.

I've never seen anything that subsequently moves around. Be interesting to see if Tony's actually seen something that does.

I think it must have been some sort of dado trunking that I had seen, wish I could remember where it was, probably some office on my travels.

I agree with the view that a load of double sockets on all walls a little higher than bench height is the way to go. Perhaps also with a group of sockets in the middle somewhere, recessed into the floor.

Presumably the dado trunking approach enables electrics to be added after construction of a building, and allows additional sockets to be easily added.

Thanks, Tony.

I think I would go for sockets in the ceiling with drop-down leads - less stuff to trip over.

Cheers

If you chck out the pics in the "Rycotewood" thread, you'll find that they have extension "cubes" hanging from the ceiling. I didn't pay that much attention to them on Saturday, but in hindsight I should have, as they're a bloody good idea!

Does anybody know where I could get hold of some? I'm sure I've seen them in a catalogue somewhere, I just can't remember where.

Cheers

I remember seing something like a distant cousin to this in a kitchen advert.
It's a pop-up socket tower that fits flush with the worktop. When up you get about 6 sockets and when you've finished playing with 6 toasters (!!) it pops-down out of the way.
Could that be any good.

Alex.

Electrak do something for offices, labs and the like, but as far as I can remember the do not offer a sliding sockets. Its just a system where you have many points you can plug into along using special twist in plugs, effectively a bus bar.

Its not something you will find down at the local electrical wholesalers or DIY place. I am guessing its not cheap.

Happy hunting.
