How would you attach hairpin legs to a 30 mm thick slate about a meter long mock
 
If there's more than one fixing per leg and they're well spaced you could use the screw in threaded sleeves, drill a hole larger than you would for wood and araldite them in. To drill slate use an hss on slowish speed,no hammer and you will need to grind the tip every few holes Alternatively drill through and use a dome headed bolt
 
Even at 30mm, I’m not sure I’d trust that slate, it’s a very brittle material. Is there any way to fabricate a subframe?
