Have noticed recently that the live pausing on the sky hd box doesn't seem to always work.

Haven't yet figured out if it's stopped working all the time, just on some channels or programmes, or works sometimes and not others, will pay it more attention at the weekend and try and diagnose further.

Certainly wasn't working last night watching the football on bbc hd, watching through the sky box and menu selection. Pressing the pause button on the remote made the red led on the sky box light up momentarily so the remote is presumably fine and the box receiving the signal okay.

Am I missing something and some programmes or channels actually can't be paused for some reason rather than it being a problem with our equipment ?

Never had the issue with our previous sky+ box, so wonder if it's just something to do with the new hd box and/or hd channels ?

A bit vague I know so will try and narrow down if it is still working at all or anything more specific.....

Cheers, Paul :D

It pauses it by buffering it to the Hard Disk. If your HDD is full of recorded stuff - then it can't buffer to it and hence no Pause TV. Check the recorded Items - it should say how many Hrs free.

Switching the power off to the box say for 30 secs. then waiting for it to restart seems to cure problems on sky boxes (reboot).

Hmmm, seems to be working tonight, good but weird :?

There is masses of hard disk space, so if it happens again maybe I'll try the hard reset at the plug rather than off/on with the remote which didn't help last night.

Thanks guys.

Okay, thanks Pete, useful to know. Does it wipe the hard drive in the process presumably ?

No, it's only a planner re-build which leaves the hard drive content alone. "System reset" wipes the hard drive content.

You could try switching off at the wall, holding down the "Backup" switch on the box, then switching back on. Wait until all the lights flash on the front before releasing the Backup switch. This forces a software download, ensuring that you've got the latest version.

No - it's a sort of 'defrag' - it also rebuilds the disk file allocation table.

Also, what you are watching is continuously being saved to the disk, which is how you can freeze and rewind live TV. It always comes as a surprise that if part way through a program I hit the record button the recording includes upto (about) 40 minutes of the current program that has already been transmitted (providing we have been watching that channel).

As for rebooting - switching off at the wall and then powering up clears most problems. The other thing we were told to do by tech support when we had a problem was to switch off and disconnect the feeds from the dish, then reconnect and switch on. In our case the problem was not with the box but with the installer doing a botched job of configuration which only took many phone calls,an eventually an engineer who sorted it in minutes and then said that customer service should have sorted it when we first called - he was not impressed.
