Was looking to get this - rave reviews
is it all it is hyped to be?
Are the skilton discs of velcro'd sandpaper any better than other generic ones?

I use the small skilton sanding pads (1" and 2") and make my own disks cut from Rhyno Red abrasives (available from Hegner).

I've found that the skilton sanding pads definitely last a lot longer than the cheaper versions before falling apart - especially the smaller ones (which I use for sanding the insides of boxes). The velcro hooks are good and strong and the glue that bonds them to the rubber pad seems less afffected by heat than whatever is used on the cheaper types of sanding pad.

Hi Harlequin,

I have used one of the Skilton arbors before and it's between them and the Hegner ones (which I sell   ) as to which are best. Never used the sanding discs though but they would have to be bloody good for the price. Again, I use (and sell   ) the hegner discs and they last really well and are a fraction of the price!!!

Cheers

Richard

PS, if you do buy the Skilton kit, let us know how you get on!!

I've used the skilton's for a few years now and they are the best i've tried (sorry richard) I did try the hegner one's from richard (excellent service fully reccomend :D ) and i found them to de laminate quicker than the skilton's do and to be too hard on there own and too soft with an interface pad fitted.
simon hope has just developed an alternative pad and i will be trying them next weekend hopefully.

the asm abrasive which richard mention's are brillant and i use them for power and hand sanding.

the simon hope sanding pad has just been deliverd- my first impressions are that its very well made and looks the bussiness- i will test it over the weekend and update you on its performance, although a long term test is always best with sanding pads to see if they delaminate.

I tried the Hegner and (sorry Richard) it died within a couple of uses. I bought the Skilton ones and very pleased I did. They are brilliant.

I've used some Hegner ones for several years now. After a couple of years the velcro came away but I replaced it with some heavy duty velcro from John Lewis and they've been going strong ever since. The soft pads have been more of a problem but they're also several years old now. They've tended to fall apart but they've been given a hard life. One has glued back together and has lasted well.

I also use the Grip-a-disc system and find them great - one arbor had lasted for about 5 years and I've recently been using them with the Hegner and some homemade soft pads.

The Hope ones look good but I'll wait to read some reviews before buying.

Just wondering if you've managed to use these yet and what your first impressions are

yes i have- i'd forgot all about this thread

the velcro is excellent quality and the bonding to the steel base plate seem's good- as i mentioned earlier though only a long term test will really make or break a pad
One thing which wasnt apprent fropm the pictures was that they do come with an interface pad as standard- so you have the choice of the skilton level of firmness (with the pad in place) or very hard (similar to the hegner)level of firmness without it- the velcro on the interface pad is brillant.
