I have a Sip 10" table saw which when i purchased it had had its arbor adapted from 25mm to 16mm

Could anyone tell me how to do this as i have a friend that has just brought the same saw and wants to adapt it

Hi Jon,

Sorry but I cannot help you with changing the arbor.

One question though, why would you or your friend want a 16mm arbor? I could understand if you wanted to go from 25mm to a more standard size of 30mm, but 16mm seems a strange size, or am I missing something? Is 16mm a better size then 25mm?
Sorry to answer your question with a question, but I am just curious

Cheers

Mike

Jon,
I suspect you need a 5/8" bore to be compatible with standard blades although these often get wrongly referred to as 16mm.
The spindle will have to come out and turned down in a decent metal lathe.
A new flange with a 5/8" bore
It is absolutely vital that the new diameter is machined to be truly concentric with the bearings otherwise the spindle will be ruined and all your pal will have is a vibrating wobble saw.

I concur with MikeC regarding 30mm blades, why not get some adaptor sleeves to go up to 30mm , then the original blade flanges can be re-used.

hi Bob many thanks for the advise, as mine had already been converted i just though you could only mill the arbor down, i agree in my friends case going up to 30mm would be better, any idea where i can get a 5mm arbor sleve from.

kind regards jon

most blades are made with 30 mm bore but you can fit a 30 to 25 mm bush in them.
is it 25mm or 1" (25.4mm)
make sure he gets the right bushes.

many thanks, i am aware of using bushes however these are not suitable when using dado blades and other attachments

many thanks

The plot thickens! I gather that you infer that the arbor has been extended, is that so?

Roy.

It doesn't need to be on the SIP saw. All thats needed is a few spacers to avoid the taper at the start of the shaft then just the right sized dado blade. There is a whole thread on here somewhere about using a dado in the SIP saw with a good little picture.

I used a bush so I can use my 30mm freud blade with mine.

Jon please remember that your saw was not built to accept dado head cutters and so things like the blade brake will not work properly when you are using them.

Same here Chems, but Freud also do some with a 25 mil hole that won't quite fit, but (HORROR!) it's surprising what you can do with a file!

Roy.
