Hi guys :)

I've just been let down by my B&Q 1/4" router. The spindle lock sheared off. The router itself works fine but I can't change the bit anymore :( It's 6months old and I didn't keep the receipt #-o

I figure it's about time I actually spent a bit more than £30 on a router as I seem to be using it more and more for hobby woodworkage.

I've seen this Sip 1/2" router on Toolstation. I've never used and of Sip's tools before - are they any good?

I'd say £63 is at the upper end of by budget - could stretch to £80ish for a good recommendation.

1/2" isn't vital, but I'd guess it'd give me more options with projects.

Many thanks!

It might be worth taking it back to B&Q, last time I took something back I too had lost the receipt, but the kit had a date of manufacture on it, they would swap it for a new one but not give any refund.

I've always found B&Q to be great when returning tools - especially their own brand ones which come witha 3yr warranty. Don't remember ever taking the receipt with me either........

I agree with the others, take it back Bryn
and get an exchange like for like or put
up the extra money and get a better one.
(if they have one)

Thanks for the replies, guys!

As it turns out, a mate of mine bought the router off me for a princely £15 (he was after the motor). I then went to B&Q to check out other routers and; lo and behold: They had this Bosch 1/4" feller for £59 in their -15% sale! I'd been hankering after this very one before I 'settled' for the B&Q router 6 months ago.

I know I've always stuck up for the cheaper end of the powertool market but christ, the difference in quality is immense!

On the downside, I didn't notice that it doesn't have a micro-adjuster until I'd got it home and played with it a bit, but I figure I can work around that.

Cheers.
