Silicon tape versus self-amalgamating tape?

Is there a difference? Self amalgamating tape is easy to get hold of and cheap and I find quite a few uses for it.
But Lee Valley tools sell some Silicon tape that looks different: here.
Is this stuff the same as the cheap stuff Screwfix and others sell: here.

Well spotted Olly - does look different but both do the same thing.
Just curious what the difference is is all. Guess one is cheaper!
