I have never felt happy with the fit of long rebates but I have just acquired an old second hand Preston side rebate plane. What a fantastic tool. It had a crack in the removable cast front piece which I have repaired. It is so easy to take a fine shaving off either side of the rebate to give a perfect fit but I definetely feel better working on the left than the right hand side. How did I manage for the last 30 years.
