I've been reading the site for a while but this is the first time I've posted any pictures of anything so please be gentle :D

I've been meaning to give what passes for my shop a tidy for the last few erm, well lets just say it's a long time. I've been putting it off with the excuse that I have a whole house to do up first (we still don't have any heating) but I just can't stand it any longer. I thought I would try shaming myself into actually doing it so here are some almost before shots - I say almost because I've already been going at it an hour.

Workshop

Some of the highlights of my shop are:
* Running water - both down the walls and to the sink hidden behind the cabinet with a red top.
* A bench made from an old wardrobe - it's rubbish and racks terribly but it holds a lot of stuff.
* A floor with two levels and bad damp.
* A gaping hole in the wall where the roof sprung a leak (you can just see the start of it it to the extreme left of the third photo).
* I have to share the space with the plumber (SWMBO) and the sparky, builder, decorator and general handyman (hmm, I'm those last few so I probably shouldn't complain to loudly about that).
* Last but not least: there is no power or lighting.

The space itself is actually pretty good but unfortunately for me it's temporary as it will eventually become part of the kitchen and I'll be moving into the cellar.

Well I've seen messier

This reminds me very much of how I started in my current workshop 2yrs ago. The transition from garage\store room to workshop is a slow an tedious one. It's a frame of mind thing, not just for you but for you significant others. It took longer to get wifey to realise that the garage was no longer a garage where things were dumped to 'tidy away'. I arrived at my current config, which is far from perfect, and I've finally 'arrived' in a comfort zone. I now feel I can build stuff without worrying about moving stuff around all the time or having to set tools up when I need them.

So it takes time, but stick at it. It's great when it's all setup. I really enjoy going out there now 8)

Wize words I think. As you say it takes time and I've got a long way still to go but I think I've already convinced my better half that a workshop would be a good idea - she actually tries to get me to buy tools! I think it will always contain all the other DIY tools but hopefully they can just be put away for when they are needed.

I think the next thing on the list to build will be a proper bench. Currently when sawing on the long white bench I can get a good 15mm side to side movement .

Any ideas what went wrong with the image tags? I feel such a dummy asking as I'm a programmer by trade . I'm guessing it's the space before the closing tag. If I didn't include a space though the closing tag became part of the URL. I wonder if the # in the URL is tripping up phpBB.[/img]

If you right click on the actual picture as displayed on your links above and then click 'Copy Image Location' or something like that depending on what browser you are using.

Then paste between the IMG tags

Ah ok, stupid me. In my haste to post I pasted in the link to the page showing the image rather than the image itself. I'll hand in my geek badge later.[/img]

Looks a darn site tidier than mine does at present.
Mine is also a general dumping ground for bikes, lawn mowers and alsorts of other general tit tat. I've got to get around to building somewhere to put the bikes so they're not constantly covered in sawdust.
