Hello,

I'm planing to build a wooden shed (insulated with polysterene and over boarded with ly internally for security.

Any ideas on how much it would cost for timber for the following structure?

I'd be looking at t&g cladding rather than that brick effect cladding.

I'll probably be looking at a dual pitched or flat roof instead of the picture roof as lovely as it is. Just a rough idea really as I can't afford 1k for a shed.

I'll be building a brick plinth for it to sit on and a timber floor. I'll be using it for stained glass work.

Thanks

Hi,

I am in the middle of building my shed which is 12x14'. It uses concreted slabs and brick plinth and will be insulated and boarded out on the inside with osb. ALthough not finished I now have all the materials minus the electrics and have spent 2K, but I reckon we could have easily knocked off about £600 as we bought things like felt roof tiles rather than just roofing felt etc.
Not nearly as cheap as I would have liked but at least I know it will last.

HTH

Halo

so about half that then less a bit, I'm looking at 8x8

Is that including osb etc for internals?

Also how are you planning to run electric to it and did you need pp?

That price included osb for internals.

We "lanscaped" the garden about 2 years ago and buried some 80 mm flexible conduit buried about 50cm along with the appropriate hazard tape on top which runs to the house. As long as it has not collapsed we will pull some SWA cable through to connect shed with the house.

As for planning permission  We needed it and it took them 3 months over the summer for them to give it to us, mostly because they all went on holiday one after the other, so I ended up building in coldest winter I can remember. I am in Scotland so regulations will be very different as to whether you need to apply. I am sure someone will be along soon to give some guidance on that.

What about if the shed was already there and an electrician were to connect up the electrics? Would I have to involve building control?

If you are connecting through the distribution board, feeding your house, it is the same as if you were plugging in an extension lead to a socket, and assuming you are not going to draw commercial quantities of electricity, then there's no reason to inform building control. Any new supply comes under both building warranty, connection is through the energy supply Co. opperating your area...bosshogg
