Just wondering Jacob, do you use a guide for saw sharpening?
I have a small block of wood with an angled hole in it that goes on the end of the file. I line this up parallel to the saw blade. This helps me stay consistent on my fleam.

Parallel in which plane, or both?

Both. In line with the saw and parallel to the floor.

That’s a very fancy equivalent. Mine is literally an off cut of wood with a hole drilled in at the right angle and the end of the file pushed in to it. I’ll take a picture next time I’m in the workshop.

Have done that in the past. Neat idea. But I just tend to go for it, fairly rough and ready. Not that often of course as mostly machine.
People don't seem to be quite so OCD about saw sharpening for some reason.
